Will this increase enrollment?
Absolutely! We estimate an additional 150 high school students will be able to take advantage of our quality training annually – TUITION FREE! This would accommodate the 100+ high school applicants that typically do not get to attend each year. It will also allow room for more adults to take advantage of our full time offerings and enable us to provide additional training for our area companies that gladly pay a premium for our quality training and services.
Are the additional funds for your general or building fund?
Half of the funds will be added to the general fund and half will be added to the building fund. Therefore it will be necessary to have two separate questions on the ballot. We need both questions to pass to make the proposed projects a reality. The SOTC Board plans to lock in most of the new proceeds in a revenue bond that will allow adding the programs within a year or two. A smaller portion of the new proceeds will be used for operational costs involved in the new programs.
Is SOTC experiencing an increase in operational costs?
Like all schools we have experienced significant increases in transportation and utility costs. However, by far, our greatest challenge is meeting the needs of our programs for up-to-date curriculum and state-of-the-art technical equipment. Simulators and trainers cannot accurately replicate real-world training and experience. It is very important that our students learn on the same quality equipment found in industry.
How does our Tech Center compare in funding with other Tech Centers?
SOTC is currently ranked 24th of the 29 different Oklahoma Technology Center districts in local support. Of the eight Tech Centers closest to SOTC in valuation, SOTC ranks at the very bottom in local millage support. Because of this, other monies are withheld from our district from time to time.
