Prepare yourself for a medical career! Learn the critical lifesaving skills needed to care for a patient in cardiac arrest. The class will include adult, child, and infant procedures. Course follows American Heart Association guidelines.
Students will have the opportunity to learn the role of the Long-Term Care Nurse Aide regarding patient care, medical terminology, safety, basic structure and function of the human body, nutrition, vital signs, and Alzheimer's. The 96 hour program consists of theory, skills, and clinical. Certified Nurse Aides are eligible to work in long-term care facilities, hospitals, physicians' offices, and private duty assignments. After completion of this course, students are eligible to set for their certification exams which consist of a clinical skills exam and a written exam. Both are available at SOTC and cost $35 each for a total cost of $70. Exam costs are not included in tuition costs. Students will need a current TB skin test and American Heart Association CPR for the Health Care Provider card.
Students will learn about home care and the home care industry, communicatin skills, client needs, maintaining a healthy/safe environment, nutritional needs, and illnesses that require home helalth care for the patient. After completion of this course, students are eligible to set for the certification exam which consists of a clinical skills exam ($35) and a licensing/registration fee of $10. Exam and fee are not included in the cost of tuition. Testing is available at SOTC. Students will need to have current certification as a Long-Term Care Aide.
This course provides training for entry-level employment in medical labs and includes training in patient vitals, blood analysis, urinalysis, and fecal tests.
This course is designed to prepare the Medical Assistant supervised by a physician to initiate and administer intravenous therapies. The student will learn skills necessary to initiate and maintain the IV site, purposes for using intravenous therapy, types of IV solutions, calculation of IV flow rates per gravity and per infusion pump, introduction of medications administered via IV push technique, safety measures associated with IV therapy, potiential complications, trouble shooting factors affecting therapy infusion, introduction to administration of blood, an overview of special populations and appropriate documentation skills.
This course is designed to provide training for direct care staff in residential care facilities and licensed group homes. It will assist those who have responsibility of administering medication to the residents.
This course is for those who are currently certified as MAT who needs the eight hours of continuing education required each year.
Learn to understand the medical terminology that doctors, nurses, and you will use if you want to become a medical secretary, ward clerk, LPN, or medical transcriptionist.
Students learn CPR and basic airway management, how to care for patients who have received a skull, spine or chest injury, had an episode of hypo/hyperglycemia, are bleeding or in shock, have had a seizure, have been burned, had a cardiovascular event, had a drug overdose, or are experiencing emergency childbirth.
Learn anatomy, physiology, injuries, and illnesses to all body systems and basic treatment modalities. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Exam.
